Individual Account Retirement Fund<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>The Metro-ILA Individual Account Retirement Fund (I.A.R. Plan) was established on January 1, 1997 to provide Metro-ILA workers with a source of retirement income in addition to Social Security and other retirement benefits.<\/p>\n
The I.A.R. Plan is considered a\u00a0Defined Contribution Plan<\/strong>. This means that an employer contributes a specific dollar amount (currently $5.00 for each hour worked) on behalf of eligible Metro-ILA workers. In turn, the contributions are allocated into an individual account set up for each plan participant.<\/p>\nThe Plan is also\u00a0self-directed<\/strong>. This means participants make their own investment decisions with the monies that are deposited in their individual accounts. Participants can choose from a menu of mutual funds and fixed income options that represent the full range of investment risk from conservative to more aggressive styles.<\/p>\nThe individual accounts are maintained by\u00a0Empower<\/strong> which is retained by the Plan\u2019s Trustees to provide recordkeeping and administrative services. The Fund\u2019s staff, on behalf of the Trustees, is responsible for the day to day operation of the Plan. This includes ensuring that contributions are collected and transferred in a timely manner to Empower for crediting into the individual accounts.<\/p>\nDeveloping an Investment Strategy<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nMaking personal decisions about investing can be difficult.
